Trapshooting

The Pecatonica FFA Trap team has had a very successful season as a new team with only 1 year under their belt and the oldest shooters being just Sophomores.  The trap league allows shooters from 6th - 12th grade.  Anyone shooting over an 18 of 25 for their season average is considered a varsity shooter.  This year's conference team was made up of Will Doescher, Rylan Fisher, Charlie Krebs, Levi Krebs, Bo Leonard, Luke Leonard, Ashton McNett, Cole Peterson, Griffin Schlafli, Karter Schlafli, Avery Webster and lead by Captains Dallas Havens, Kyeton Kolb and Jake Worthington.  Cayle Hirsh, Tristan Olson, and Charles Anderson also participated with the team throughout the season.  The State League assigns conferences based on team size.  Pecatonica was in Division 1A (small teams), Conference 4.   They shoot a 5 week conference where their scores are entered virtually and scored for points.  They were able to win the conference title for the fall season and again this spring.  The scores are also compared against the 3,220 other shooters in the state, where 4 of team's best shooters received All-State Honors (top 100 in the state) Dallas Havens (4th), Kyeton Kolb (27th), Jake Worthington (45th), Cole Peterson (78th).  Karter Schlafli was just out of the running at 118.  Dallas Havens was 2nd individual and Kyeton Kolb was 3rd individual in the conference.  Jacob Schley from Shiocton High School, won the conference as well as the state.  On Saturday the team travels to Rome, Wisconsin for the State Trap Tournament where they will shoot 100 clays at 8 and 8:30am. Representing the team at State are- Dallas Havens, Kyeton Kolb, Cole Peterson, Karter Schlafli, Rylan Fisher, Chalie Krebs, Levi Krebs, Griffin Schlafli, Avery Webster and Ashton McNett.  The team's conference scores also qualified the team to be invited to the National Contest for the team competition where 5 members will represent them in Mason, Michigan against 240 teams nationally from July 5th through 9th. They will be Kyeton Kolb, Dallas Havens, Cole Peterson, Karter Schlafli, and Levi Krebs.  Ashton McNett and Avery Webster will attend as alternates.  The team would like to thank the community for supporting our team with our gun raffle.  Our team activities are funded solely by the community and parents including the fees for the clay, tournaments, conferences, and shells.  It is a very expensive sports, one that costs around $15 for a round of 25 and some kids will shoot over 6 rounds a week to work on those skills.  Last weekend we were only 7 points off the leader for the "King of the Club" in Jonesdale, where your top 5 scores make up your scoring squad.  There was even a college recruiter there to meet shooters from our team, and other teams in the area.  We stand toe to toe with large schools in our area and get noticed when we travel because our school is commonly on the leaderboard in the state.   We wish them well as they travel to State and Nationals this summer!
