Opening your property tax bill can raise questions. If you felt surprised when you saw it, you are not alone.
We often hear from community members when property taxes increase. It is important to understand that while the school district is one piece of the tax bill, many of the primary drivers are set at the state level and through funding formulas that are outside of the local school board’s control.
Your total property tax bill reflects levies from multiple entities, including your municipality, the county, the school district, and the technical college district. Each plays a role in the final amount.
We are committed to being transparent and helping our community understand how school funding works. If you have questions about the school district portion of your tax bill, please reach out. We are always willing to walk through it with you.

On February 25, our REDgen peer leaders attended the Teen Mental Health Summit at CESA #3. The guest speaker, Brian Buffington, shared with students different strategies to help with mental health. Brian got our students up and moving, laughing, and making connections with other schools.
Throughout the day, students engaged in interactive sessions focused on resilience, stress management, and the importance of supporting one another. They explored practical tools for recognizing when a friend may be struggling and learned simple, proactive ways to respond with empathy and encouragement. The summit also provided an opportunity for our students to collaborate with peers from neighboring districts, exchange ideas, and strengthen their leadership skills.
We are proud of our REDgen leaders for representing Pecatonica with positivity and maturity. Experiences like this empower them to bring meaningful conversations and healthy coping strategies back to our school community, helping to foster a culture that is supportive, welcoming, and proactive about mental wellness.

📚✨ Mystery Reader Surprise in 2nd Grade! ✨📚
Our 2nd graders in Mrs. Yanna & Ms. Johnson’s class had a special visitor this week… Mystery Reader Lukas Orloff!
Lukas returned to his former 2nd grade classroom to share one of his favorites, Dr. DeSoto by William Steig. It was a full circle moment as he sat in the very room where he once listened to stories himself. 💚💛
After the read-aloud, students fired away with great questions. They wanted to know everything from wrestling highlights to what kind of truck he drives!
We love seeing our high school students come back to inspire our youngest learners.
Thank you, Lukas, for being such a positive role model and for helping us grow a strong reading community at Pec!

Students got to work with guest clinician Travis Cross.Travis J. Cross serves as professor of music and director of bands at UCLA, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and leads the graduate wind conducting program. Cross has conducted the UCLA Wind Ensemble at the California All-State Music Education Conference and College Band Directors National Association Western/Northwestern Division conference and prepared the band for centenary performances of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Students also got to attend a recital put on by Seraph Brass Band.
